United Nations Children’s Fund

Addressing the humanitarian needs of children in Ethiopia

“The first casualty of war is innocence”

The United Nations  Children’s Fund was founded on 11th December 1946. It holds the responsibility for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide.

Malnutrition, violence, and displacement haunt the children of Ethiopia. At least 1,900 children under 5 years of age have died from malnutrition in Ethiopia’s embattled Tigray region in the last year, according to a study conducted by regional health officials and as seen by the Associated Press. In Ethiopia, only 3% of children under 5 have their births registered with civil authorities. 4 in 10 young women were married or in union before their 18th birthday, with the incidence of child marriage being significantly higher in Afar, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Somali regions, at more than 50%.

As Ethiopia's conflict rages on, the children are left to pay the highest price and we, at Strawberry Fields High School Model United Nations 2022, urge you to be the voice of the helpless. Introducing the committee of UNICEF which its agenda - Addressing the Humanitarian Needs of Children in Ethiopia.
