United Nations Human Rights Council
Strengthening the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Afghanistan with Special Emphasis on Women and Children
The United Nations Human Rights Council discusses all thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention. It is responsible for strengthening, promoting and protecting human rights around the globe, addressing issues of their violation and making recommendations on the same.
The situation in Afghanistan remains highly uncertain with unlawful killings, violation of children and women’s rights, abuse, exploitation, forced labour and terrorism, especially after the Taliban took over Kabul. The Taliban have forbidden women and girls from receiving secondary and higher education and altered curricula to focus mainly on religious studies. They dictate what women must wear and how they should travel. Women also face strict segregation in the workplace.
These are issues of great debate and importance. The delegates, in the UNHRC, will be discussing matters “to Strengthen the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Afghanistan, with Special Emphasis on the Rights of Women and Children.”
This committee will provide the delegates with the right circumstances to consider and make critical decisions which will take effect on a global scale. Thus, we are introducing this committee, a simulation of the United Nations Human Rights Council at the Strawberry Fields High School Model United Nations 2022.
